Attribution Code for Standard Users

Attribution Code for Standard Users

Overview

This article explains how to set up and use the Attribution Code feature for Standard Users. Colleges can now assign a unique Attribution Code to any Standard User, giving them a personal Attribution Link to share across their campaigns. Every lead that registers through this link is automatically captured in Meritto and attributed to that user — with no manual upload required. This guide covers how to assign an Attribution Code, access and share the Attribution Link, and understand how lead capture and data visibility work for these users.

Real-World Use Cases

Idea
Use Case: Channel Partner Needing More Than Just a Lead Link
Scenario: A college works with a consultancy that not only brings in leads but also helps students with form filling and application management. The Agent role is too limited for them. They are given a Standard User account for full access — but earlier, there was no way to track which leads they were bringing in online.
How it works: The college assigns an Attribution Code to this Standard User. The partner shares their Attribution Link on WhatsApp and social media. Every student who registers through this link is automatically captured in Meritto and attributed to the partner — with the lead and application auto-assigned to their account.
Idea
Use Case: Tracking Multiple Channel Partners Independently
Scenario: A college has 10 channel partners, each running their own campaigns. Without attribution, all leads were landing in the system untagged and it was impossible to measure who was performing.
How it works: Each partner is created as a Standard User with a unique Attribution Code. The Attribution Code field appears across Lead Manager, filters, and downloads — giving the college a clear, filterable view of exactly how many leads each partner has brought in.

Step-by-Step Flow

Step 1: Creating a Standard User with an Attribution Code

To enable attribution for a channel partner, create them as a Standard User and assign an Attribution Code during setup.
  1. Log in to Meritto and navigate to User Manager.
  2. Click on Create User. A creation window will open.
  3. In the User Type field, select Standard User.
  4. Enter the user's email address. Note: when the Attribution Code feature is enabled for an account, only one email can be entered at a time.
  5. Assign Roles & Permissions and Team as needed.
  6. Fill in the Attribution Code field. This is an alphanumeric field (up to 9 characters). Letters, numbers, hyphens, underscores, dots, and brackets are allowed. This field is non-mandatory and non editable.
  7. Fill in Allocated Forms if applicable.
  8. Click Invite. The user will be created in an Invited state and will receive an activation email containing their unique Attribution Link.
NotesNote: The Attribution Code field is only visible on accounts where the Attribution Code feature is enabled. This field is also supported in bulk user upload and the create/update user APIs.

Once the user is created, the admin can access and share the Attribution Link at any time from the User Manager.
  1. Navigate to User Manager.
  2. Find the Standard User and click the Action icon (⋮) against their name.
  3. Click on Attribution Link. A drawer will open titled “Attribution Links” with the subtext “Use these links to capture leads & applications”.
  4. The drawer has two tabs:
    1. Lead Link / Registration Link (default):  Contains the college’s landing page URL with the Attribution Code embedded. Click the copy icon to copy and share via WhatsApp, email, or any other channel.
    2. Application Form Links:  Visible only if application forms exist in the college and the user has access to at least one. Lists individual form links with the Attribution Code embedded, each with a copy icon.
Notes
Note: If the college admin disables or deletes a Standard User with an active Attribution Link, the link does not expire. However, leads registered through that link will not be attributed — the Attribution Code field will remain blank for those leads.

Once the channel partner shares their Attribution Link:
  1. The student clicks the link and is redirected to the college’s landing page.
  2. The student fills in their details and registers.
  3. The lead is automatically created in the college’s Meritto portal with the Attribution Code field populated with that user’s code.
  4. The lead is auto-assigned to that Standard User in Meritto.
  5. If the student starts an application form using the Attribution Link, the application is also auto-assigned to that user.
Notes
Note: If a student who is already registered in the system clicks an Attribution Link, they will be taken to their Student Application Portal (SAP). The Attribution Code field will not be updated in this case.
Notes
Note: The Attribution Code field will not be overridden. It only gets updated if the field is currently blank.
Notes
Note: The Attribution Code field is visible across Lead Manager listing, filters, customize columns, and downloads — but only for accounts where the feature is enabled.

Step 4: What the Channel Partner Sees in Their Dashboard

Standard Users with an Attribution Code have a restricted data view — they only see leads and applications attributed to them. This works if the user has the permission to view his own data only.

  1. Lead Manager:  The user only sees leads where their Attribution Code is populated — i.e., leads assigned to them.
  2. Application Manager:  The user only sees applications that are assigned to them.
  3. Mobile App:  The same restricted view applies — the user sees only their attributed leads and applications in the mobile app as well.

Conclusion

The Attribution Code feature extends online lead attribution to Standard Users — giving colleges a flexible way to track channel partner performance regardless of the user role they are assigned. Channel partners can now drive leads through their own campaigns with every lead automatically attributed and assigned to them, ensuring no lead goes untracked and no attribution is missed.
